Townsville Hatchery

As part of Cell Aqua's hatch-to-dispatch model, there was a need to secure a consistant supply of quality barramundi fingerlings. The decision was made to develop our own hatchery in order to control the quality and supply of these fingerlings for our joint venture partners and licensees.

As a result, Cell Aqua has developed a technically advanced hatchery on the grounds of James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville.

The first batch of fingerlings from the Townsville hatchery were produced in May 2006 and shipped to the company's joint venture facilities in the US and the Netherlands in June 2006 with very few mortalities. These fingerlings are now moving into the growout phase of production and are exceeding the company's growth expectations.

Cell Aqua is also marketing these fingerlings for growers of barramundi in Australia. The year-round supply and high quality makes them an attractive source of stock for growers looking to maximise production from their growout operations.
