FRESH SEAFOOD SPECIES
Australian barramundi The initial species to be marketed by Cell Aquaculture is Australian barramundi (Lates calcarifer), a hearty, fast growing, premium white flesh game fish with strong established demand in domestic and international markets.
Australian barramundi has a high yield when filleted and has an excellent preparation diversity – it can be baked, pan fried, deep fried, grilled, cooked whole and sashimied.
Other Species Cell Aquaculture is also working toward commercialisation of Murray cod (Maccullochella peelli peelli) and is undertaking research and development for the production of golden perch (Macquaria ambigua), coral trout, mahi mahi and red drum.
Cell’s™ ability to consistently produce quality finfish without seasonal variation is likely to be very attractive to major international seafood buyers, who require consistent supply and product quality.
Golden perch is a premium, white fleshed native Australian freshwater fish. Natural supplies of this highly sought after species are currently very limited..gif)
Murray cod is highly sought after as a table fish, with firm, flaky, delicate, white flesh. The Company has successfully completed a full grow-out trial of Murray cod and has test marketed the product with a strong positive feedback.
